I didn't forget how badly I wanted to do the STP last year. As soon as the registration was open, I got right on it. Apparently not fast enough to be under number 1000, I rode as number 5194. We left at 6:00 AM Saturday morning blocks from the Husky stadium parking lot.
Michelle let us stay at her place Friday night. JJ, along with my two girls, were our support. After leaving Saturday morning from Michelle's, we stopped in Spanaway, Tenino and ended our ride at the beer garden on the campus of Centralia College. JJ was right there to pick us up.
We left Sunday morning right from Mill Creek Farm. The three of us rode in and quickly out of Toledo. Only to find ourselves on a semi-detour that included a gravel road. All I could think of was flat tires!
At the Lexington stop Robyn found some other friends and our ride with her ended there. But continued to fly by, in part because I spent a lot of time drafting. We were rolling through the ups and downs- Longview, Rainier, a quick stop at St. Helens, Scappoose, and the next thing we knew we were at the finish line!
We were greeted by our favorite people, minus two. Who, in case you were wondering, hung out at home for a "guys" weekend.
We chilled at the finish line a little bit longer, to relax and watch more bikers finish a ride that was a serious challenge for myself. It feels AWESOME to have accomplished this. And I am already planning next years camp-out at my parents place. I'd like to ride like the funnest of them, complete with a blaring i-Pod and matching jerseys. Any takers? Here's your un-official invite!
And while I am here. Blogging that is. Please note that for the next week and maybe two, MaKenna will be getting her one on one time of the Summer. Farming with Grandpa Dan and JJ. Hanging with the cows, but not the one below, although I think she'd of stayed with him all day if we could have let her!
She'll probably take lots of pictures of her Shay Shay, too. Don't spoil her as much as you spoiled us this weekend, mom.
Thanks for everything!
