Friends & Fires

Daddy left. A fire in either Colville or John Day called his crew. Honestly I don't know which one and it's not the in one ear, out the other situation. Instead it's the reality of fire season. DRAMA and Changes before I can get all the details of the first plan of action. Normally we would have talked while he traveled or texted right as he got there and realized he wouldn't have service. But we haven't. I am not sure if we are going back to the old school, no cell phone days or if it has something to do with him being in "crew boss training." And since I can't ask him, I'll have to wonder. It's not so bad, not talking. He doesn't have to hear the bitching and I don't have to feel bad because he misses us so much. We enjoyed each other and our back patio the night before the dispatch. It was relaxing.

And because life just can't stop when he goes on a dispatch the kids and I pedaled over to our old stomping grounds. Yet another park in town, that surprisingly, we haven't spent a whole lot of time at this summer. We met our happy group of friends for a potluck style dinner. Let the kids roll around and visited. I had a few. Then we pedaled home. I love friends. I love having them. I love being one. I love knowing that they'd help me when he is away. I know they would. They'd all drop whatever they were doing and help. I'd do the exact same for all of them.
